An Adventure of a Lifetime!
In the 1920's, the Union Pacific Railroad advertised the Grand Circle as a tour of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. From those beginnings, the Grand Circle has grown to include some of the most awe inspiring national parks and monuments including attractions in 4 states. We look forward to taking you through some of nature's most dramatic landscapes and an unforgettable journey. Available April 15 - October 15.
Day 1 - With a 5:30 am departure from Phoenix, we have a lot to see today. We see the Navajo Nation's Monument Valley Tribal Park and the Four Corners National Monument on our way to Colorado's Mesa Verde ruins. Our first stop is the world famous Monument Valley with its towering sandstone buttes. The next treat is a Navajo-guided jeep tour with a chance to dance and sing with Navajo entertainers. At the 4 Corners National Monument you can stand where Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona come together. Our trail ends today at Colorado's Mesa Verde National Park with it's sprawling city of Anasazi ruins. We arrive at approximately 6:30 pm for dinner and an overnight stay.
©2006 DetoursDay 2 - Our guided tour of Mesa Verde National Park is in the morning. Mesa Verde National Park shelters over 600 documented sites, the largest collection of ruins and cliff dwellings of the ancestral puebloans in the United States. A recent fire has revealed dozens of new archaeological sites and more are expected to be found. Intricate mini-city ruins like Spruce Tree House and the adventurous descent to Balcony House will deliver you into the heart of this ancient city where you will discover what it might have felt like to live as the ancients did. We have a mid afternoon departure for Utah's canyonlands on our way to Moab. We arrive in Moab at approximately 5:00 pm for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3 - Your stay in Moab offers you a morning tour of Arches National Park and one of three options for the rest of the day. Your options are:
* A tour to Dead Horse Point in Canyonlands National Park with it's 2500 foot+ overlooks of the Colorado river.
* A rafting trip on the Colorado River (cost not included in tour).
* A free afternoon in Moab to explore and relax. Dinner and overnight are in Moab.
Day 4 - The tour departs Moab for Green River, Utah and the John Wesley Powell Museum on our way to Capitol Reef National Park. Capitol Reef is one of the least known National Parks because of it's location and is a wonder of sandstone bluffs and sculptures. Dinner and overnight will be in nearby Torrey, Utah.
Day 5 - Our first surprise this morning is the scenic Boulder Mountain Highway, listed as one of the 8 most scenic byways in the United States, WOW! In the town of Boulder, the last town in the United States to receive mail by donkey, we can stretch our legs and visit the Anasazi ruins at the state park. The newly designated Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument awaits you during our drive to Bryce Canyon National Park. After some stunning overlooks, we arrive in Bryce Canyon National Park for lunch with time for some canyon rim views and hiking. Dinner and overnight are in the historic Bryce Canyon Lodge.
Day 6 - After breakfast we head for the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park with lunch at Jacob's Lake. The North Rim is only seen by 1 in 10 Grand Canyon visitors and provides the most spectacular views. You will be amazed by Cape Royal and Point Imperial, the highest point in the Grand Canyon at 8,803 feet. Dinner and overnight are in the North Rim Lodge.
Day 7 - With a morning departure, we arrive in Zion National Park for lunch. The afternoon is yours for hiking and exploring in the countless canyons and vistas. The Zion Theatre is a popular option. Dinner and overnight are at the Zion Lodge.
Day 8 - We arrive in Las Vegas at approximately 1:30 after a late breakfast in Zion.
